Women Working for Free Day

As of today, there is 13% left of 2016. And since women earn on average 13% less than men, as of today, women are effectively working for free for the rest of the year.

The Pay Equity Challenge Coalition does a lot to raise this issue, and to point out that women aren’t working working for free because their work is unimportant, but because – as, for instance, the Kristine Bartlett court case showed – they are routinely discriminated against in the workplace, paid less simply because they are women.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see “women working for free day”, or whatever it’s to be called, retreat further and further in the calendar until it effectively falls on December 31?
